We are beyond excited to take the AWA Experience down south again to one of our favorite playgrounds in the entire world. Explore the untouched southern pacific of Costa Rica and experience a new way of living in this remote surf village, home to some of the best, longest waves in the world: Pavones. This is one of the last places on Earth where virgin rainforest grows right to the high tide line, surrounded by giant trees, roaring monkeys and breaching whales. We've carefully curated a fantastical program full of surfing, nature and the most nourishing local flavours made with love by our in-house chef. Drop in with us for a week of pure expansion and surf your hearts out with the local queen of the south Laura Pecoraro and an amazing group of jungle seasters.

Fly into San José airport. There are a few options to get to us from San José airport, depending on your time and budget. Flying from San José to Golfito (closest local airport) and then taking a cab is significantly quicker but also a bit more expensive. In the intermediate price range you can travel with a rental car. All of these options are detailed below:
PLANE
Your best option to travel to Golfito is to fly via SANSA Airlines who offers daily flights from SJO.The flight is approximately 1 hour long and it costs something between $100-$150. If travelling with frineds, we recommend booking these flights together, in order to avoid changed to one of the reservations and not the other (rare, but just in case).
SANSA operates out of the separate domestic airport, a five-minute walk from San José’s main terminal. As they operate out of different airports, you are not connecting, instead, you’ll first need to go through immigration and collect your luggage. Upon leaving Arrivals, walk straight to the main boulevard, turn left, and you will see the Domestic Terminal located 500 feet ahead. If in doubt, and airport official will be able to point you in the right direction.
BOOK HERE: SANSA Airlines
When you arrive to Golfito, we can book you a taxi to Pavones (approximetely $80 each way) or you can rent a car to get to the Lodge (be sure to book in advance as there are limited car rental options in Golfito).
IMPORTANT NOTE: The above option won’t work for those who are travelling with surfboards bigger than 7’0. In that case, we will oordinate land transportation for your boards from SJO if you’d rather fly down.
RENTAL CAR
Other way to get to the Lodge is renting a car from any rental agency at SJO Airport (Hertz, Budget, Avis, etc.). We highly recommend booking in advance, preferably a 4x4, and drive approximately 7 hours to Pavones. As Pavones is a long drive from San José you can make a small road trip on the way there, checking out places like Manuel Antonio and Uvita/Dominical to break up the drive. We don’t recommend making this drive after dark because of the narrow bridges on the road and also there are lots of turns to make on unmarked roads, so plan accordingly.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Download the Waze App on your phone to help you with navigation through Costa Rica.
SHUTTLE
You’ll be collected from SJO Airport and driven all the way to our Lodge in Pavones. The drive takes 6-7 hours and your driver will make any necessary stops along the way, he is super cool! The van fits up to 6 people and the total cost is $450.
Citizens/residents from ALL countries are currently allowed to enter Costa Rica. All mandatory requirements have been dropped by the national government since April 1st.
YES! You can bring your own board or pick your perfect match from our quiver. We suggest you travel with your own board if you are feeling comfortable surfing with it. Have in mind that the internal flights in CR won't allow you to travel with a board bag bigger than 7 feet.
